Stop the press! There’s a new Supes in town: Jon Kent has come out to fight for justice in his very own way.
The new superhero, son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is concerned about the environment, is involved in politics and will soon begin a romantic relationship with a friend.
Superman’s love life is not very detailed, but it is known that the comic book character, taken to the movies on multiple occasions, succumbed to the charms of the journalist Lois Lane, with whom he had a son. And this son, Jonathan Kent, seems to repeat his father’s footsteps with one difference: his interest is also in a colleague, but in this case it is a man named Jay.
The publisher DC Comics, in charge of narrating the adventures of the ‘man of steel’, has decided that the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane will have a romantic relationship with a friend, the also journalist Jay Nakamura, with whom he began a friendship in a story that was published in August. But in the comic coming out next month they will have gone a step further and will kiss.
A new Superman for the new times
The first rumors pointed to the death of the first Superman, but it seems that he will only be rescuing Mongul’s slaves in the Warworld.
Jonathan Kent is left to take his place and is a worthy successor to his father, but he must fight the fights that belong to his generation (yes, the one they’re so insulting just because the character is gay): forest fires caused by climate change, saving students from a school shooting, and protesting to prevent the deportation of immigrant refugees in Metropolis.
Tom Taylor, writer of Superman said in regard to this controversial plot-twist:
“The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another white heterosexual savior felt like a missed opportunity. A new Superman should have new fights, with real-world problems, that he could defend as one of the most powerful people in the world”.
The story will appear in the fifth issue of ‘Son of Kal-El’, which will hit bookstores on November 9.
DC Comics has described the new Superman in the text as “bisexual” and titles it “Jon Kent Finds His Identity”.
